"My art work started off from a fascination with painting landscapes from memory, exploring the rhythm of colors, shapes and various textures, which created for me the actual pictorial reality of what I was painting. The dynamics of the colors and forms played the important role in these works, and this discovery soon inspired me to leave behind the figurative meaning of these paintings. As soon as I realized that the true fascination for me was the interaction of the colorful strokes and the patterns of rhythm they create on the canvas, I started experimenting with expressing myself in non figurative 'language'. These first abstract paintings were influenced a lot by the works of Joan Snyder. The spontaneous quality of these works are important to me, for the essence of these first works were the act of 'freedom', the independence the strokes and forms gained from the spontaneous compositions. My work has been influenced by various abstract expressionist artists: Hans Hofmann, Cy Twombly, Willem De Kooning, Joan Mitchell.
In my newest works expressing specific topics, which reflect on my personal reality, and my every day life has gained importance. For me art is a mean of communicating, whether it's speaking through paint or any other form.
The freedom of using different types of materials is also significant in my recent works. I have found it possible to communicate my thoughts through yarn, torn paper, or even the pieces left from sharpening a pencil. I use the playful and dynamic compositions created from these various materials to express my personal messages."
